How to Grow Cabbage Microgreens

Cabbage microgreens are quick and easy to grow indoors, on a balcony, or near a bright window. They are generally ready to harvest within 8–12 days.

Cabbage Microgreen Sowing Method

1. Take a clean, shallow tray with drainage holes.
   
2. Fill it with a 2–3 cm layer of moist cocopeat, seed-starting mix, or fine potting mix.
   
3. Soaking the seeds is not necessary, but you may soak them for 3–4 hours to encourage faster germination.
   
4. Spread the seeds evenly and densely over the growing medium without overcrowding or piling them.
   
5. Gently press the seeds into the surface. Cover them with a very thin layer of cocopeat or leave them uncovered.
   
6. Mist thoroughly with a spray bottle without disturbing the seeds.
   
7. Cover the tray with another tray or lid and keep it in a warm, dark place for 2–3 days.
   
8. Check daily and mist lightly whenever the growing medium starts drying.
   

Light and Water Requirements

After germination, remove the cover and place the tray where it receives bright indirect sunlight for 4–6 hours daily. You may also use a grow light for 10–14 hours per day.

Water lightly once or twice daily, depending on the weather. Bottom watering is recommended after germination because it keeps the leaves dry and reduces the risk of fungal growth. Keep the medium consistently moist but never soggy or waterlogged.

Provide good air circulation and avoid excessive moisture. Do not keep the tray in harsh afternoon sunlight, as young seedlings may wilt or dry quickly.

Harvesting Cabbage Microgreens

Harvest when the seedlings are approximately 5–8 cm tall, their cotyledon leaves are fully open, and the first true leaves are just beginning to appear. Use clean scissors to cut the microgreens slightly above the growing medium.
