Mexican Lawn Grass Seeds For Lawn Garden (100g)

Best time to sow

• Sow when soil is warm (warm-season grass): soil temp consistently above ~18–20°C, and ideal germination is usually around 25–35°C.
  
• In most of India, this generally means spring to monsoon (Feb/March onwards in many places).

Soil preparation

1. Remove stones, old weeds, and roots.
   
2. Loosen top 3–4 inches soil.
   
3. Mix in fine compost/vermicompost (and a little sand if soil is heavy clay).
   
4. Level the surface and lightly firm it (so footprints don’t sink).
   

Sowing method (for even lawn)

1. Mix seeds with dry sand/soil (1:4) for uniform spreading.
   
2. Broadcast half seeds lengthwise, half crosswise.
   
3. Cover seeds with a very thin layer of fine soil/compost (about 0.5–1 cm). Don’t bury deep.
   
4. Lightly press/roll so seeds touch soil (good seed-to-soil contact helps a lot).
   

Watering schedule

• Day 1–15: Keep top soil consistently moist (not flooded).
  
  Water 2–3 times/day lightly if weather is hot/windy.
  
  
• After grass reaches ~2–3 inches: shift to deeper watering, less often to develop roots.
  

Germination & first mowing

• Germination varies by weather; many lawn grasses sprout in ~7–14 days under good moisture & temperature.
  
• First mow when grass is 3–4 inches tall.
  
  Follow the one-third rule: don’t cut more than 1/3 height at a time.

Feeding

• After 3–4 weeks: apply light compost top-dressing or a mild lawn fertilizer.
  
• Avoid heavy fertilizer in the first 2 weeks.
  

Common mistakes to avoid

• Overwatering (waterlogging) → seed rot.
  
• Letting soil dry in first 10–15 days → patchy lawn.
  
• Covering seeds too deep → poor germination.
  
• Walking on new lawn too early.
