Product description

Kumbhkat Lime is a cherished desi lime variety from Bihar and Jharkhand, grown for its sharp, unmistakably tangy juice and thin, smooth skin — the lime home cooks reach for when a dish needs real acidity, not a mild supermarket substitute.

The lime your grandmother's kitchen would recognize.

Plant Details

Variety: Kumbhkat Lime
Common Names: Kumbhkat Lime, Desi Lime, Kumbhkat Nimbu
Propagation: Grafted
Plant Height at Dispatch: 30–45 cm
Container: Black poly nursery bag
Growth Rate: Moderate
Mature Height: 6–10 ft, pruned
Mature Width: 6–8 ft
Sunlight: Full sun
Suitable For: Home garden, farmhouse, terrace (large container), kitchen garden

Fruit Profile

Fruit Shape: Small, round to slightly oval limes, borne in generous clusters along the branch
Skin Colour: Deep glossy green when harvested — the stage most valued in Indian cooking; skin turns pale yellow-green if left to ripen fully on the tree
Pulp Colour: Pale greenish-yellow
Taste: Intensely tangy, sharp, aromatic acidity — stronger and more traditional-tasting than a standard nursery lime
Peel Fragrance: Intensely aromatic — well suited to zesting
Texture: Thin, smooth, glossy skin; juicy, seeded pulp
Best Use: Nimbu pani, sharbat, juice, zest, marinades, salads, everyday Indian cooking

Why Kumbhkat Lime

  • A genuinely desi flavour: prized in Bihar and Jharkhand kitchens for a sharper, more aromatic tang than the mild limes found in most nurseries.

  • Heavy, generous clustering: fruit sets in full bunches on established wood, so a mature plant gives a real harvest, not a handful of limes.

  • Built for the kitchen: perfect acidity for chutneys, pickles (achaar), curries, and everyday cooking — not just garnish.

  • Thin, easy-to-use skin: less bitter pith than thick-skinned limes, so it juices and zests cleanly.

  • Blooms and fruits annually: once established, expect a dependable yearly harvest with moderate, manageable growth.

  • Fits a large pot: stays 1.8–3 m tall with pruning, so it works for a generous terrace container, not only open ground.

Inside The Box

  • 1 live Kumbhkat Lime Plant
  • Black poly nursery bag
  • Pre-moistened growing medium

Please Note

  • Fruit images are for variety reference only. Fruit size, colour, juiciness, aroma, and bearing time vary with climate, soil, irrigation, nutrition, pruning, and growing conditions.

  • Plant height, branching, foliage, and overall appearance may vary depending on season, nursery stage, and growing conditions — the plant you receive may differ slightly from the image shown; this is normal and a sign of authenticity.

  • Stems carry small thorns — handle with care.

How To Care

  • Light: Full sun, 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily — like all citrus, it needs strong light to flower and fruit well.

  • Water: Prefer deep, infrequent watering over frequent light sprinkling. Summer — deep soak every 2 to 3 days; Monsoon — cut back sharply and ensure sharp drainage, citrus roots are very sensitive to waterlogging; Winter — every 7 to 10 days, letting the topsoil dry between waterings.

  • Soil: Well-draining soil rich in organic matter; avoid heavy, waterlogged, or clay-heavy mixes.

  • Feeding: Fertilise in late winter, just before the spring bloom, then continue with a balanced or citrus-specific fertiliser through the growing season.

  • Pruning: Prune in early spring once the coldest part of winter has passed, to maintain shape and keep airflow open through the canopy.

  • Spacing (if planting in open ground): allow 2.4–3.6 m between plants to accommodate the tree's eventual width.
