  • Light: Keep it in medium to bright indirect light — near a window with filtered light. Avoid direct sun, which fades the stripes and scorches the leaves.

  • Water: Keep the soil evenly moist — never soggy, never bone dry. Summer (March–June) every 2–3 days; monsoon (July–September) every 5–7 days; winter (October–February) every 5–7 days. Check that the top 2 cm is just starting to dry before watering.

  • Water quality: Calathea is sensitive to hard or chlorinated tap water, which causes brown, crispy leaf tips. Use RO, filtered or rain water, or tap water left out overnight.

  • Reservoir pots (Aqua Pot / Self-Watering Pot): keep the reservoir about half full in summer; lower in monsoon and winter.

  • Humidity: Likes high humidity. Keep away from AC vents and coolers; place on a pebble tray with water, group with other plants, or keep in a bright bathroom.

  • Soil: Airy, moisture-retaining mix (coco peat + compost + perlite).

  • Feeding: Half-strength liquid fertiliser once a month, March–September. Skip in winter.

  • Grooming: Trim brown tips with clean scissors; remove old yellow leaves at the base. Wipe leaves gently to keep the stripes bright.
