How To Grow Lima Beans

The direct sowing method is best for planting Lima beans. Bush Lima beans are perfect for small spaces and grow very well in any pots/grow bag size 36-60 cm (width and height). Lima beans grow fast in warm and bright conditions and give 2.5 cm deep water in every week when pods are developing and blooming time, in case of underwater flowers will drop permanently. For lima beans, seed germination soil temperature should be at least 18°C. Bush lima bean does not need much support like pole lima beans but you can use tomato cages to support the heavy stems.

Lima Beans Seed Sowing Method

Sem Phali or Lima bean seeds should be sown directly rather than transplanted. Select a pot/grow bag and fill them with a sowing medium. Sow 1-2 Lima beans seeds per pot about 2.5-4 cm deep in the soil at a distance of 8-10 cm from each seed. Give deep water to your bean pots every day by using a watering can. Keep the pot in a sunny location for seeds to germinate. Lima bean seeds will be germinated in 7-14 days (depending on growing conditions).

How To Fertilize Plant Lima Beans

Lima beans do not require many feeds as they act as nitrogen fixation. Apply any organic fertilizer (like vermicompostneem cakemustard cake, etc)  after 25-30 days from planting, to get the healthy pods.
