Winter Savory Growing Season In India

Winter savory is a cold-hardy herb plant that grows in warm weather. The best time to plant winter savory is spring in the month from February to March. However, it can survive cold temperatures down to -10°C

How To Grow Winter Savory In Containers

You can sow winter savory seeds in any container or grow them by transplant method; it grows well in both ways. Growing savory in pots is perfect because container soil warms up faster than garden soil and you can place it anywhere. To grow savory from seeds, select a pot or grow bag 12-24 inches wide and 12-15 inches wide and deep with well-draining holes. Winter Savory seeds germinate faster in warm climates when the soil temperature is between 18-28°C. Winter savory is a perennial plant that re-grows every year so you should replant or repot every 3-4 years.

Winter Savory Seeds Sowing Method

Take a pot or grow bag, fill them with soil and add organic fertilizer (cow manure or vermicompost) then sprinkle 5-10 savory winter seeds over the soil, and cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil as savory seeds need light to germinate well. Water the soil deeply through a watering can, and put the pot in a sunny spot. Savory seeds germinate in about 10-21 days, they may germinate early or late depending on the growing conditions.

If you have grown savory in a seedling tray then after seeds germination when seedlings are a few inches tall, then you need to transplant them into big pots. Do not add extra fertilizer, give proper water to the savory plant and try to keep the soil moist.
