How To Grow Marjoram

You can sow marjoram seeds directly in a container or grow them by transplant method; it grows well in both ways. To grow marjoram from seeds, select a pot or grow bag that is 12-24 inches wide and 9-15 inches deep with well-draining holes. The optimum temperature for germination of Marjoram seeds is 18-25°C.

Take a pot or grow bag, fill them with soil and add organic fertilizer then sprinkle 5-10 marjoram seeds over the soil, and cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. Common pests and diseases – Some pests such as aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites attack marjoram plants, and diseases powdery mildew infect the plants. To get rid of the problem it would be right to spray Neem oil on the marjoram plants. 

Pruning – To encourage the growth of new buds and help enhance the flavor of the marjoram, prune dry and infected flowers and leaves. Harvesting regularly is also a type of pruning of plants. If any flowers begin to appear, pinch or cut them off to prevent them from producing seeds. Pruning should be done in dry or hot weather and you should prune marjoram plants twice, once at the beginning and once at the end of the season.

Mulching – Mulching is a good option to protect the marjoram plant from an extremely hot climate, for mulching add 2-3 inches of dry leaves, straw, grass, etc. on the soil.
